You want a career that gives back to you. Why waste your time on a career that leaves you feeling unfulfilled and dreading the standard 9-5 slog – there’s so much more to life than that.

We’re here to show you there’s more to life than that. Read on for our top careers that constantly give you something back.

Healthcare

Copious studies have shown that being a medical doctor, nurse, therapist, or any healthcare professional is among the most rewarding careers. Does it come at the price of a sprinkle of stress? Yes – but what job doesn’t?

Why so? Because they spend their time enhancing and sometimes saving lives. Whether it’s straightforward taking care of patients, diagnosis of diseases, or helping in rehabilitation, caregivers often see the results of their labor.

If a nurse, for example, gives medicines, this is not all she does—patients are treated, compassion is shared, and lives are changed. What’s more, there is immeasurable joy when a nurse can see how her patient’s health improves. The medical profession is so broad that there’s an almost endless list of careers to pick from – you can work in a private practice or for healthcare recruiting services.

Teaching

Teaching is also a continuously rewarding profession.

Educators, like elementary school teachers or university professors, influence the minds of individuals in all stages of their development. It is hard to quantify the effect that a teacher can have. These skilled people transfer knowledge, motivate, coach, and help their students see their prospects.

There are some tedious activities involved in teaching, yes, but again, what job doesn’t have tedious chores? Teachers help their students achieve long-term success – it is one of the most satisfying aspects of the profession.

Teaching provides a platform for attainment that is quite rare.

Social Work

Social workers don’t have as much recognition as they should – they also do so much to change lives. Their role includes child protection services, mental health, and community development. Social workers help those people at some of the most difficult phases of their lives.

One of the most satisfying aspects of social work is the knowledge that you have been a significant player in changing a person’s life for the better and most often, keeping them safe. Finding permanent housing for families, helping individuals recover from addiction, or supporting children in foster care are some of the common tasks of social workers.

Although the work can be intense, many social workers love the work they do. We would argue that more must be done to reform the social work system, however, as many workers are swamped with caseloads higher than they can manage. But that isn’t to say the system isn’t implementing changes and initiatives like recruitment drives.

What career do you think is the most rewarding and always gives back? We think it’s so essential to find a career that you don’t feel is constantly draining you. You spend most of your time at work, so find a career you love!
