Indications: Stress, exhaustion, and fatigue, reactive depression (e. g., after cancer diagnosis). Contraindications: Allergy to plants used for treatment; pregnancy. The treatment can increase the effects of alcohol. The patient should abstain from alcohol around treatment. Action – Mood-enhancing, relaxing, promotes feeling of well-being. – Actions according to essential oil used • Benzoin: Balancing, calming, helpful in stress and depression. • Jasmine: Lifts the spirits, e. g., in depression and anxiety. • Clary sage: Enhances the mood, stabilizes the emotional state, has stimulating effects in fatigue and low-energy anxiety. Materials – 2 tablespoons sea salt – 5 to 10 drops 100% clary sage – 5 to 10 drops 100% benzoin – 1 to 3 drops 100% jasmine oil – ca. 300 mL boiling water – Compress (several thicknesses of diaper cloth), dish towel, towel, flannel sheet – Hot water bottle Preparation: Put the sea salt in a bowl and add boiling water. Stir for a few minutes until the salt is completely dissolved. Add the essential oils to the hot salt water. Dip the compress into the salt water and oil solution, then wrap in the dish towel and wring out. Application: Spread the flannel sheet on the bed and have the patient lie down on it. Check the compress for heat tolerance by touching it lightly on the underside of the forearm. Place the compress over the upper abdominal region (solar plexus) and cover with the towel. Wrap the stomach region in the flannel sheet. If the feet are cold, place the hot water bottle under the feet or over the stomach. Duration of treatment: 20 to 30 minutes, or until the wrap has become too cool.
