17.1 Arnica Wrap for Heart Ailments
General Considerations

Indications
– Angina (angina pectoris).
– To reduce the strain on the heart in febrile elderly patients.
Contraindications: Allergy to arnica.
Action
– The effects of the drugs are transmitted by nerves and reflexes across Head’s zones, resulting in an increased blood supply and reduction of the cardiac load.
– Clinical practice has shown that arnica compresses are effective in relieving anginal symptoms. Patients report a sensation of heat spreading from the inside out, and an increased perception of the feet. The aromatherapy effect also plays an important role.
Materials
– 1 cup of water, heated to body temperature
– 1 tablespoon of 70% arnica tincture (arnica blossoms and ethanol 70% v/v 1: 10)
– Bowl and tablespoon
– Compress (folded cotton cloth, ca. 15 × 20 cm)
– Flannel or wool sheet somewhat larger than the compress
