Chapter 1 Punch Biopsy
Common indications
Punch biopsy is a good choice for the complete removal of small lesions (less than 5 mm) and for the pathologic diagnosis of a larger lesion (Figure 1-1).
Equipment
A punch biopsy instrument used to obtain a full-thickness cylindrical specimen is added to the routine skin repair set that includes a topical anesthetic such as 1% lidocaine, pick-ups or forceps, iris scissors, and a labeled specimen cup (Figure 1-2).
