Damaged proteins
Misfolded or damaged proteins are of no use to a cell and are potentially damaging because they could form inappropriate aggregates with other important macromolecules. Such proteins are quickly destroyed. Proteins generally fold with hydrophilic residues facing the exterior aqueous medium, and hydrophobic residues buried in the core.
