Bronchopneumonia

Bronchopneumonia

Philip T. Cagle

Bronchopneumonia is also called focal pneumonia or lobular pneumonia. Bronchopneumonia is discussed here because the acute inflammation involves the respiratory bronchioles and adjacent alveolar ducts and alveoli (involves the center of the lobule). This is in contrast to lobar pneumonia, which involves an entire lobe. Pneumonias are discussed further in Chapters 68 and 69, and specific organisms that can cause pneumonias are discussed in Chapters 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 and 100.
