Pulmonary Hypertension Associated with Hypoxemia

Pulmonary hypertension may be associated with hypoxemia in diseases such as chronic obstructive lung disease and interstitial lung disease. Chronic exposure to low oxygen at high altitudes, and sleep apnea, may also result in pulmonary hypertension. In these situations, the pathology consists of pulmonary hypertensive changes of the arteries and, if applicable, the pathology of the associated disease.
Histologic Features
Muscularization of arterioles, arterial medial hypertrophy, and intimal proliferation and fibrosis.
