This anatomically complex region is presented in four sections: the face and parotid region (Chapter 1), endoscopy of the upper respiratory tract (Chapter 2), the midline of the neck and structures approached through the midline (Chapters 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7), and the lateral neck and structures approached from the side (Chapters 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13). Within each section, procedures commonly performed by general surgeons are used to illustrate regional anatomy. For descriptions of more complex procedures, the reader should consult an atlas of plastic surgery or surgery of the head and neck (see references listed below).
