Humans infected accidentally by exposure to contaminated feces

Right lobe of liver is most common site
Microscopic Pathology
Viable cysts of E. granulosus are composed of 3 layers
Innermost layer is delicate germinal membrane with protoscolices
Middle layer is hyalinized, laminated, acellular material secreted by parasite
Outer peripheral layer is granulation tissue and fibrosis
