Benign Fibroblastic Polyp/Perineurioma

Hematoxylin & eosin shows a benign fibroblastic polyp of the colon. The lesion has its epicenter in the lamina propria and essentially no inflammatory component.






Hematoxylin & eosin shows high magnification of a colonic benign fibroblastic polyp. The cells are bland with small nuclei. Compare them to the size of the erythrocytes as an internal control.

  • Colonic mucosal proliferation of monomorphic spindle cells leading to separation, entrapment, and disorganization of colonic crypts

    • Median: 50-55 years


  • Gender



    • No predilection


Presentation



  • Reported cases detected incidentally, typically at time of routine colonoscopy screening for colorectal adenomas


  • Median size: 3 mm


  • Often associated with serrated polyps of various types


Treatment



  • Polypectomy
